MISSION STATEMENT

WUT stands for “We, Us, Team”. This is a philosophy explained to me by a very successful baseball coach, scout, and an amazing person in Phil Pote. Mr. Pote preached this when he was a college coach in Los Angeles to emphasize the importance of his kids playing together and working together as a group. No one is bigger than the group and everyone needs to be reminded of that idea every day. We all come together for something greater than ourselves… that is the Team. This really hit home with me as Mr. Pote came to many of our games when I was at North Hollywood. Finally I asked him, “Mr. Pote, why are you continuing to come out and watch us play? We don’t have any pro prospects nor have any of the teams you have seen us play”. His remark was something that will stick with me forever. He told me that he was there to watch my group play together. He had already finished all his scouting work for the upcoming draft and wanted to watch me coach and see our guys play together. Mr. Pote spent a lot of his own time with me, mentoring me and making me a better person, along with coach. I want my guys to play together and realize that if we play as one we can compete with anyone. If we separate and become selfish, worry about our own statistics, playing time, etc. the entire team gets hurt. This game was created to have nine guys working together. Today, it takes an entire roster to fill out a team with each guy having a role that must be fulfilled. Sometimes, as players we don’t like our role but the only way to change it or get more responsibility is to show that we can perform the role asked of us at the time. Once we show that, more opportunities will come.
